Supported Projects:

  • 4D04 Negócios agrícolas sustentáveis para a redução da pobreza no distrito de Apurimac - Projecto Pachachaka (2003-2007)
Poverty is one of the main social problems faced by Peru.

Poverty is concentrated in rural areas, particularly in "rural sierra." In this area, two thirds of households were poor, with 30% of them extremely poor.

  • 4D08 Programa Binacional (Peru e Equador) para a conservação e gestão participativa dos bosques tropicais no Chinchipe (2005-2009)

Political crises experienced in Peru and Ecuador in recent years exacerbated the poverty of rural areas, contributing to an increase in the emigration process of the peasant population of the Andean region which, for lack of other economic opportunities, occupied and deforested marginal forest areas the purpose of extracting timber and install temporary crops.

Oikos completes 4 years project - 2005 to 2009 - in Peru and Ecuador to promote the conservation of tropical forests of the binational basin in Chinchipe. A total of 7360 people benefited, representing about 1,600 families.

  • Projecto de emergência para as zonas de Apurímac e Ayacucho afectadas pela onda de frio e tempestade de neve: Mitigação das necessidades e aumento das capacidades para gestão de desastres (2004-2005)

During the month of June 2004, an exceptional cold wave affected rural communities in the departments of Apurimac and Ayacucho. This phenomenon has aggravated the poverty situation in a already impoverished area, making hard the access to communities, preventing the development of traditional agricultural and commercial activities and determining the death of a large number of cattle.

This situation strongly limited local agricultural production (main economic activity of the area) and threatened the food security of the affected population. This Rehabilitation project aimed to contribute to mitigate the damage caused by the cold snap and snow storms in three districts in the province of Apurimac, Grau and Cotabambas and 3 districts in the province of Sucre in Ayacucho in Peru. For this, the actions aimed rebuilding the productive capacity and animal breeding of the families affected by cold wave and snow storm, through the action of humanitarian aid and the organization and / or strengthening of risk management of local organizations, using the Civil Protection Committees.

    Beneficiaries: 5,594 people (1,243 families)

    Start Date: Oct.2004

    End Date: Apr.2005
