Energy For Life: Campaign for Education for Development on the critical role of renewable energy in poverty reduction and sustainable development (2009-2012)

Energy for Life is a project on which Oikos is working in partnership with non-governmental organisations from Italy, Germany, Spain, Malta, Brazil, Tanzania, Laos and Cambodia.

Its primary goal is to increase awareness of the use of renewable energy sources as a tool to reduce poverty and for sustainable development. The general public is also warned about the need to mitigate climate change and to find alternatives to fossil fuels.

The website www.energy-for-life.info was launched as a support for the activities undertaken as part of the project.

The portal will host an electronic game on the subject, which Oikos is developing in partnership with Innovaworks, and with support from the Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (Cavado and Ave Polytechnic Institute), which will be divulged among primary and secondary schoolchildren in the European countries involved in the project.

Co-financed by the European Commission and the IPAD (the Portuguese Development Support Institute), the project is being undertaken in partnership with the Italian NGO Instituto Oikos (consortium leader); the DGS - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Sonnenenergie e. V. in Germany, and the ECODES - Fundacion Ecologia y Desarrollo in Spain.
