Promotion of digital citizenship in Satipo, Mazamari, San Martin de Pangoa and Río

Through the promotion of local governance, of digital literacy, through of the strengthening of municipal institutions, of management capacity, and the development of the local economy, based on the principals of social equity and environmental sustainability, this project aims to contribute for the decrease of poverty and inequality levels in the most vulnerable families of Satipo, Mazamari, Pangoa e Rio Tambo.

 

As such, there will be created and developed a series of actions which will generate competences on the diverse sectors of governance and civil society, as to facilitate the development of plans and programs for social development, the promotion of democratic spaces, and the management of local initiatives.

 

These initiatives will also seek to promote the capabilities and means for the use of information technologies, and the sustainable connectivity of those technologies within these districts, which will offer new opportunities of development, thus improving the quality of life of the population and its inclusion in the social, economical and civic dimensions, particularly within the most vulnerable sectors within the scope of the project.

 

A varied number of people and social actors will be indirectly affected, amongst them being men, women, municipal employees, community leaders and representatives of local organizations. The priority beneficiaries of the project are women, teenagers and youths, and the indigenous population of the districts of Satipo, Mazamari, San Martin de Pangoa e Rio Tambo.

 

The project, financed by the European Commission, will be executed in partnership with the Peruvian NGO CEDRO - Centro de Información y Educación para la Prevención del Abuso de Drogas, which is the organization leading the project.

 

Specific Objectives:

1)To facilitate access to new educational and information technologies, through the installation of telecenters, which will provide new development opportunities, and citizen participation opportunities in Satipo, Mazamari, Rio Tambo e San Martin de Pangoa, with emphasis on youth, women, and the indigenous population.

2) To strengthen civil society's and local government's capacity for management and coordination of action geared towards socio-economical development.

3) To encourage and support productive initiatives for the creation of sustainable income for youths, women and indigenous people, as well as members of local organizations.

 

The final results expected at the end of the project will be:

1) That men and women of the districts expand on their own their opportunities for development and local participation through the New Technologies in Information and Communication (NTIC).

2) That workers, directors and representatives of civil society will strengthen their capabilities for cooperation for sustainable development.

3) That women, youths and indigenous people develop sustainable productive initiatives.
