Programme to promote rural markets (PROMER)

This project is being undertaken as part of a programme by the Mozambican government to promote rural development. Oikos' role is to implement the main activities planned under the initiative in 5 districts in the province of Cabo Delgado.

The intention is to promote a better standard of living for poor rural families by increasing the revenue of small farmers in the areas covered, and subsequently strengthening of local social players. This is done by attempting to develop the famers' associations in the target districts, improving the management capabilities, government, services rendered to members, the forging of links with financial and trade institutions, access to the markets and increased assets, among others.

Help will also be given to district authorities to develop tools for monitoring, registering, systematising and expanding the creation process and the institutionalisation of associations by resorting to plans of action and methodological and didactic tools.

This project is benefiting 214 farmers' association and was financed by the Mozambican government's Ministry for State Administration – National Directorate for the Promotion of Rural Development (DNPDR).
