Arts and Crafts School Rehabilitation, Nampula – Mozambique Island (2002)

This school has ceased to work shortly after independence in 1976. So, the building that covers an area of over 3,000 m2 was in an advanced state of degradation and abandoned. The effort required knowledge of appropriate techniques for the recovery of a XIX century building, considered cultural heritage. The technical team made the initial training of workers with practical experience and construction workers. This school began to have larger classrooms, workshops, new cafeteria and kitchen, new toilets, meeting space, theater, exhibitions, library and lecture theaters. There was a curriculum proposal for the areas defined by the Ministry of Education, fisheries, management and construction. This school serves a significant population of the surrounding districts of Mozambique Island where hundreds of thousands of people live. Elementary and basic technicians prepared in this school should meet the existing needs for the development of these regions nearby. Beginning of school activities: Academic year 2003.

End date: 2002
