Este projecto tinha como objectivo melhorar o acesso aos serviços de saúde primária nos municípios de Trinidad, Sancti Spíritu e Guamá, Santiago de Cuba. Para isto, as acções desenvolvidas procuraram contribuir para a implementação dos programas governamentais de assistência sanitária.

In this region of Peru a population composed of families who have migrated from other regions in search of better opportunities to cope with their situation of poverty can be found.

 

The central problem is the lack of capacity of small farmers to find alternatives of production. In this context, Oikos, in partnership with the Spanish Red Cross, is developing the capacity and skills of workers in the areas of production, assembly and selection of farming products oriented to the local, regional and export market.

This development project aimed to improve the living conditions of the population of Santa Clara, one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Pítipo District, in Peru. The families have substantially improved their economic conditions and now have access to adequate and quality health and education.

 

The majority of the population of this community migrated in 1995 from mountainous areas to this coastal area in search of better living conditions. However, the lack of basic services and the scarcity of water resources hindered their growth and human development.The project was structured in three major pillars: Agriculture-livestock and Environment; Health and Education

Political crises experienced in Peru and Ecuador in recent years exacerbated the poverty of rural areas, contributing to an increase in the emigration process of the peasant population of the Andean region which, for lack of other economic opportunities, occupied and deforested marginal forest areas the purpose of extracting timber and install temporary crops.

 

Oikos completes 4 years project - 2005 to 2009 - in Peru and Ecuador to promote the conservation of tropical forests of the binational basin in Chinchipe. A total of 7360 people benefited, representing about 1,600 families.

Desenvolvimento de programas integrados nas áreas de saneamento  ambiental, protecção da saúde, educação extra-escolar e criação de emprego em ordem a criar condições para o desenvolvimento integral das crianças e melhoramento das condições de vida da população de 4 bairros degradados, através do saneamento ambiental nos bairros incluindo reservatório de água e distribuição num bairro mais carenciado, beneficiando 6000 habitantes; prevenção e tratamento das doenças mais comuns, com prioridade para a protecção da saúde materno-infantil, beneficiando mães e filhos e ainda 40 promotoras de saúde; aplicar o Programa Não Escolar de Educação Inicial  (PRONEI) a 160 crianças dos 3 aos 5 anos de idade e apoiar o estudo das crianças que se deslocam à escola primária distante da zona, serão também beneficiadas cerca de 16 monitoras que receberão formação específica; preparar 20 jovens para o exercício de uma profissão e apoiar 60  trabalhadores com crédito rotativo.

Develop an integrated and complementary 5 programs: creating guinean pigs ; worm culture; cultivation of vegetables and forest and fruit nurseries; purchase and distribution of inputs for each family; establish a rotation system; support the establishment and operation of a commission which will be responsible for managing the operation. Aiming to improve the nutritional status of the beneficiary population and economic income, and promote gender factor (giving priority to women's participation). Initially will benefit 20 families in the district of Anco and 20 on Tambo district, with the follow up project, other families will benefit directly. Forestation campaigns benefit the whole community.

Poverty is one of the main social problems faced by Peru.

Poverty is concentrated in rural areas, particularly in "rural sierra." In this area, two thirds of households were poor, with 30% of them extremely poor.

To build a simple infrastructure adequate to the volume of logistical support and diversity of services that COPROFAM provides in the neighborhood situated in an area of difficult access, rugged terrain and poor roads. The beneficiaries of this program will be the 70 people working in different COPROFAM projects (health, education, sanitation, nutrition, revolving credits fund) and also the 170 children who are provided with a daily meal and healthcare, mothers and households, in general a total of 6 000 inhabitants.

Construction of a pig farm, promoting of the organized activity of creation guinean pigs and beekeeping production (using Honeybee flora and honey commerce) with the overall objectives of improving the food level served to the beneficiaries populations and generate economic income through the sale of surplus products, benefiting about 40 families.
