Testimonial from Maria Makamo, Riguanena Village, Province of Gaza

The land around my village is practically just sand. The cassava and corn barely grow. When it doesn’t rain we depend on food aid or have to go looking for food for our children far from our village.

We want to put an end to this way of life. On the low land we can sow just about anything.

We’ve already learned how to make best use of the water from the spring and to sow vegetables and rice. If we had more hoes, spades, machetes and seeds to plant in the low land, the whole village could have food without having to depend on the rain.
