Project in Peru

Beneficiaries: 6.710 people (917 families)

Starting date: Apr.2003

Ending date: Sep.2007

Poverty is one of the main social problems faced by Peru. Poverty is concentrated in rural areas, particularly in "rural sierra." In this area, two thirds of households were poor, with 30% of them extremely poor. The central problem that this project sought to address corresponds to low incomes that prevent farmers' families from Apurimac to have access to a basket of goods and essential services to achieve a dignified life. Thus, the actions sought to contribute to the sustainable generation of higher incomes and wages for women and men in poor rural communities in the department of Apurimac.
